Service Description
THE ART OF CONVERSATION– round two – a condensed version. Sign up for one session or the entire series! $25 per session - most materials are provided. This class is a conversation about specific historical periods in art & a cursory introduction to a few artists who practiced the specific style. The world has been influenced by art & artists from the beginning of time. From setting trends to reactionary politics. Thinking about & discussing art makes us more aware of society as a whole. Because of the vastness of possibility, & considering information applicability and interest, I will focus, for now, on periods of time in recent years so that we may all feel a real connection to it. Session Four (Wed., April 2, 5:30-7:30pm or until the conversation is complete) In the last session of this series, we move to the 1980’s with Anselem Kiefer, Jennifer Bartlett, Susan Rothenberg & Elizabeth Murray, who said “One finds art in the streets, or you find it at home right in front of you. I paint the things that surround me- things that I pick up & handle every day, that is what art is”. As her abstract biomorphic paintings suggest, life is a series of crosscurrents of experience which do not lend themselves to literal translation. She & others of her era help us to understand that art is often an ephemeral set of loosely translated experiences rather than an easy-to-interpret set of obvious objects. Come discuss, make a little something that mimics the topic’s ideology & stretch your brains as well as let your creative juices flow.
